The monoclonal antibody VZ 49.07 recognizes VZV ORF49.
VZV ORF49 (UniProtKB – Q77NP3) is a virion tegument protein. Its HSV-1 ortholog, UL11 is a myristylated virion protein. Sadaoka et al (Journal of Virology, 2014 Jan; 88(1): 188–201) found that ORF49 forms a complex with ORF44 which is required for the efficient production of infectious progeny virus. They also showed trans-Golgi localization and slightly larger size of ORF49 protein than predicted. Our monoclonal antibody confirmed that ORF49 localizes in the Golgi network and other membranes in VZV infected cells and also confirmed that it is slightly larger (15 kDa) than predicted (8.9 kDa).
Our anti-ORF49 antibody has been validated in ELISA (on immunogen), IF (VZV infected cells) and in WB (VZV infected cell lysates) as described in J Virol. 2013 Jun;87(12):6943-54.
