The monoclonal antibody ORF3a.01 recognizes SARS-CoV-2 ORF3a accessory protein.
SARS-CoV-2 ORF3a (Open Reading Frame 3a) is one of the nine downstream accessory protein open reading frames. SARS-CoV-2 ORF3a protein is a polymorphic, multifunctional viral protein identified as a viroporin. It interferes with ion channel activities and is likely a virion-associated protein involved in viral release through exocytosis. ORF3a has been also involved in cellular innate and pro-inflammatory immune responses, cell death through apoptosis and various other pathophysiological activities.
Our anti-ORF3a antibody has been raised again KLH-conjugated ORF3a peptide corresponding to 15 aminoacids within the first 50 amino acids of the SARS-CoV-2 ORF3a protein. Clone ORF3a.01 has been validated in ELISA (on BSA-conjugated ORF3a peptide) and western blot (on KLH conjugated ORF3a peptide), as described in Pribanić Matešić et al. Viruses 2022, 14(2), 443).
