Open reading frame 37 (ORF37) of Varicella zoster encodes for envelope glycoprotein H (gH). VZV gH is a 118kDa type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein highly conserved among other alphaherpesviruses. VZV gH forms heterodimer with gL (ORF60) and together with gB (ORF31) makes a core fusion machinery required for cell fusion and forming syncytia (Viruses (2012) 4, 800-32). To be functionally competent VZV gH needs chaperone activity of gL. VZV gH is transported and inserted within the plasma membrane, and it was shown that it is endocytosed thus regulating extent of cell-cell fusion (Journal of Virology (2004) 78, 2884–2896). Our anti-VZV ORF37 antibody VZ37.12 works in ELISA (on immunogen) and each LOT is validated for Western blot (of VZV infected cell lysates, described in J Virol. 2013 Jun;87(12):6943-54.).
